1. What is a spider? What does it do?
A spider is nothing more than a computer program that follows certain links on the web and gathers information as it goes. For example, Googlebot will follow HREF or SRC tags to find pages and images that are associated with any given site. (What Exactly IS a Spider, n.d.).

2.What is a meta-search engine? Provide some examples
metacrawlers don't crawl the web themselves to build listings. Instead, they allow searches to be sent to several search engines all at once. The results are then blended together onto one page. Below are some of the major metacrawlers:

3. How can you get your site listed at major search sites; and how could you improve your site ranking?

One of the most popular method to improve the site ranking is to attract more visitors through advertising .other sites which are highly rated can be used to advertise you site, through which your site can attract more visitors.
